How No-Fault Physical Therapy Works in New York

New York is a no-fault state: after a motor-vehicle accident, medically necessary treatment is generally covered by the no-fault insurance on the vehicle, regardless of who caused the accident, up to the policy's limits. That includes physical therapy for the neck, back, and joint injuries that commonly follow a crash.

Timing matters twice over. Medically, early treatment of whiplash and accident injuries helps you recover function. Administratively, no-fault claims have strict deadlines, including a short window for filing the initial application, so do not wait to start care.

Bring your claim number if you have one. If you do not have one yet, come in anyway: our team works with no-fault cases every day and will help you get the paperwork in order.

How Workers' Comp Physical Therapy Works

If you were hurt on the job and your workers' compensation claim is accepted, authorized physical therapy is covered by the workers' comp carrier, so you should not have to pay out of pocket for approved care.

Workers' comp cases involve authorizations, progress reporting and ongoing communication with the insurer. Our team handles this process for you, from obtaining the necessary approvals to documenting your treatment and progress, helping keep your care moving without unnecessary interruption.

If possible, have your claim number, carrier name and employer details ready when you contact us. If you are missing anything, our team can help you work through the next steps.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will physical therapy cost me anything under no-fault or workers' comp?

When your claim is accepted and treatment is authorized, care is billed to the no-fault or workers' comp insurer, not to you. Our team confirms your claim status before you start so there are no surprises.

I do not have a claim number yet. Can I still book?

Yes. Book your evaluation and bring whatever you have: the accident date, the vehicle's insurance details, or your employer and carrier information. Our team deals with no-fault and workers' comp paperwork every day and will help you get it in order.

Do you work with attorneys?

Yes. Many of our no-fault and workers' comp patients have attorneys. We provide thorough, timely documentation of your injuries, treatment, and progress that your case can rely on.

Do I need a doctor's referral to start?

In most cases, no. New York's Direct Access law lets you begin physical therapy without a physician referral for up to 10 visits or 30 days. We confirm the details for your specific insurance plan when you book.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are in-network with most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, and no-fault. Share your details and we verify your coverage before your first visit.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your therapist performs a full hands-on evaluation of your movement, strength, and history, explains what is going on, and walks you through a personalized treatment plan. Bring your insurance card and comfortable clothing.

How long is each visit, and how many will I need?

Most visits run 40 to 60 minutes. The number of visits depends on your condition and goals; your therapist gives you a clear plan and timeline at your evaluation and updates it as you progress.
