You Are Not Alone

Pelvic Floor Symptoms Are Common, but They Can Be Treated

Bladder leakage, pelvic pain and changes after pregnancy or childbirth are more common than many people realize. They can affect exercise, intimacy, confidence and everyday routines, but they are not necessarily something you have to simply accept.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that supports important functions including bladder and bowel control. These muscles can become weak, tight or poorly coordinated, and pelvic floor physical therapy is designed to identify how they are functioning and address the specific problem.

Your first visit begins with a private conversation and an evaluation at a pace you are comfortable with. Your therapist explains each step clearly, and nothing happens without your understanding and consent.

Care Built on Privacy, Consent, and Clear Explanations

Pelvic floor therapy is personal by nature, so your comfort and understanding are central to every appointment. Your therapist will explain what is being assessed, why it matters and what your treatment may involve before moving forward.

A private conversation first

Your first visit begins with a conversation about your symptoms, history and goals. You set the pace, and your therapist explains each step before it happens.

A specific diagnosis

Pelvic floor muscles can be weak, tight or poorly coordinated. Your evaluation helps identify what is contributing to your symptoms so your treatment can be tailored accordingly.

A plan you control

Your treatment may include guided exercise, hands-on techniques where appropriate and practical strategies to support progress between visits. Female therapists are available on request.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a female therapist?

Yes. Female pelvic health therapists are available; tell us your preference when you book and we will match you accordingly.

Is pelvic floor therapy only for women?

No. Men experience pelvic floor problems too, including pelvic pain, leakage, and post-surgical issues, and pelvic floor therapy is an evidence-supported treatment for them as well.

What should I expect at the first pelvic floor visit?

A private conversation about your history and goals, followed by an evaluation at the pace you are comfortable with. Your therapist explains every step first and nothing happens without your consent. You will leave with a clear explanation and a plan.

Do I need a doctor's referral to start?

In most cases, no. New York's Direct Access law lets you begin physical therapy without a physician referral for up to 10 visits or 30 days. We confirm the details for your specific insurance plan when you book.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are in-network with most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, and no-fault. Share your details and we verify your coverage before your first visit.

How much does physical therapy cost?

For most patients, care is covered by insurance and you pay only your plan's copay, if any. We verify your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly what to expect, with no surprise bills.

How long is each visit, and how many will I need?

Most visits run 40 to 60 minutes. The number of visits depends on your condition and goals; your therapist gives you a clear plan and timeline at your evaluation and updates it as you progress.
