Your sense of balance comes from the vestibular system in your inner ear working together with your vision and your body's position sense. When part of that system is off, the world can spin, tilt, or feel unsteady, and it is exhausting.
The most common cause of brief spinning vertigo is BPPV, where tiny crystals in the inner ear move out of place. A trained vestibular therapist can identify BPPV with positional testing and treat it with specific repositioning maneuvers, and research shows most BPPV cases respond to this treatment, often within a small number of visits.
Other causes, like an inner-ear weakness or dizziness after a concussion, are treated with vestibular rehabilitation: graded exercises that retrain your brain to process balance signals correctly. Your evaluation determines which applies to you, and when a physician should be involved, we say so and help coordinate it.
Positional and balance testing identifies whether your dizziness is BPPV, an inner-ear weakness, or something that needs a physician first.
Repositioning maneuvers for BPPV; graded gaze, habituation, and balance exercises for other vestibular problems.

It depends on the cause. BPPV often improves within a few visits of repositioning treatment, while dizziness from an inner-ear weakness or concussion typically improves gradually over weeks of rehabilitation. Your therapist will give you an honest timeline after your evaluation.
You can start with us; New York allows physical therapy without a referral. Your evaluation includes screening for causes that need medical attention, and if we find signs of one we will refer you promptly and share our findings.
In most cases, no. New York's Direct Access law lets you begin physical therapy without a physician referral for up to 10 visits or 30 days. We confirm the details for your specific insurance plan when you book.
We are in-network with most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, and no-fault. Share your details and we verify your coverage before your first visit.
For most patients, care is covered by insurance and you pay only your plan's copay, if any. We verify your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly what to expect, with no surprise bills.
Your therapist performs a full hands-on evaluation of your movement, strength, and history, explains what is going on, and walks you through a personalized treatment plan. Bring your insurance card and comfortable clothing.
Most visits run 40 to 60 minutes. The number of visits depends on your condition and goals; your therapist gives you a clear plan and timeline at your evaluation and updates it as you progress.
Share a few details and our team will call you back to verify your insurance and schedule your vestibular evaluation, usually within one business day.
